01 Feb Set in a barn
The rusticity of this summer dining room offers a unique backdrop to my collection of 18th century pots, my renaissance armoire, and the extraordinary large terracota antique roof tiles . Roof tiles: found on a demolition site near Toulouse, the soft earth was moulded on women thighs, baked in the sun. The colours are soft pinks, faded ochres and faded browns. Renaissance armoire, origin Tarn, from my good friend Joseph in Cordes. The round table is covered by rough hessian fabric and skin. The floor is laid with ‘pavés d’ardoise’ found in nearby Aveyron. The walls are of local stones , set in earth.
In hot summer evenings, we gather in the room for drinks and suppers at the sound of Jazz and birds singing.
